The town is famous for its healing springs that will give you health and vitality. Fall in love with one of the jewels of the Czech spa industry in the heart of the West Bohemian triangle. Marianske Lazne is ideal for relaxation and exploration in the beautiful surroundings of the Slavkovsky Forest.
In a place where, until relatively recently, there were dense and impenetrable forests full of inhospitable swamps surrounded by steep ravines, a small settlement was established at the beginning of the 19th century, which within a few decades grew into a charming spa town. Mariánské Lázně was founded in 1812 by the abbot of the Teplá monastery, Karl Kašpar Reitenberger, who pushed for the construction of the spa despite the opposition of the monastery brothers. He founded the spa on the recommendation of the monastery physician Johann Josef Nehr, who had spent many years researching the healing properties of the local sours. Václav Skalník, an excellent gardener, turned the local wilderness into a city of beautiful parks. In 1818, Mariánské Lázně was declared a public spa and began to attract patients from the surrounding area and eventually from all over the world.
Mariánské Lázně is one of the spa places with the largest number of indications. This is due to the different chemical composition of the local springs, of which there are around 100 springs in the relatively small area of the town and its surroundings. In addition to drinking cures, the mineral springs are also used for mineral baths and inhalations. Diseases of the musculoskeletal system, kidney and urinary tract diseases, respiratory diseases, metabolic diseases (especially Diabetes Mellitus), digestive tract diseases, neurological diseases and conditions after oncological diseases are treated here.
The centre of spa life is the Neo-Baroque cast-iron glass Colonnade, where you will find one of the most popular attractions of Mariánské Lázně - the Singing Fountain. In your free time, you can visit the town theatre, the library and history-loving visitors should not miss a visit to the town museum. At any time of the year, Marianske Lazne hosts a number of cultural and social events. Sports enthusiasts will also find something to enjoy here. There is the Viktoria sports complex with an athletics track and football stadium, tennis courts and a swimming pool. The adjacent parks and forest parks in Mariánské Lázně provide ideal conditions for running, walking or the currently very popular Nordic walking. The surroundings of Mariánské Lázně are also suitable for cycling. In winter, provided the weather conditions are suitable, there is a ski slope (approx. 800 metres from the colonnade) and tens of kilometres of groomed tracks for cross-country skiers. Lovers of sharp knives can visit the local ice rink during the times designated for public skating.
You can also enjoy the tranquil spa atmosphere by sitting in one of the many restaurants, cafés or pastry shops in Mariánské Lázně.
A number of interesting excursion destinations are offered in the surroundings of Mariánské Lázně. Within walking distance of the town, you can find, for example, the Hamelika lookout tower, the Krakonoš area with the Boheminium miniature park or a number of viewpoints. Not far from Mariánské Lázně, the Premonstratensian Monastery in Teplá, the Metternich Castle in Lázně Kynžvart and the Kladská Settlement are certainly worth a visit.
